Learning at Their Own Pace
Our Pre-K program is a mixed-age classroom for children ages four and five. At this stage, children are becoming more independent and developing the skills they will use as they take their next step into kindergarten.
Our mornings include a mix of individual and group activities such as reading readiness, number concepts, handwriting, phonics, sequencing, dramatic play, art, and fine and gross motor activities.
While there is more structure as children prepare for kindergarten, we still believe that play is an important part of how young children learn. Our teachers give children opportunities to explore, practice new skills, ask questions, and learn from the experiences that interest them.
Moving Forward One Step at a Time
Every child develops differently, and we do not expect every child to reach a new skill at exactly the same time. Our teachers pay attention to each child’s progress and provide opportunities to practice skills before moving on to something new.
Children work at their own pace while receiving the encouragement and guidance they need. We want them to feel proud when they master something new and comfortable asking for help when they need it.
We also use yearly E-LAP and LAP 3 assessments to help us follow each child’s progress and better understand where they are in their development.

Enrichment That Adds Something Special to the Day
Pre-K children can also participate in weekly enrichment opportunities if their parents choose to enroll them. These classes bring additional experiences into the children’s week and give them opportunities to explore interests outside their regular classroom activities.
Current Pre-K enrichment offerings include:
- Stretch N Grow – Weekly movement classes with an optional dance class
- Spanish
- Computer Class through Keyboard Kids

A Familiar Rhythm With Growing Independence
Children have a daily routine that gives them structure while allowing them to become increasingly responsible for their own learning and classroom experiences.
Building Early Academic Skills
Reading readiness, phonics, handwriting, number concepts, and sequencing are introduced through age-appropriate activities that give children opportunities to practice and build confidence.
Learning Through Play
Dramatic play, art, movement, and hands-on activities remain an important part of the day. Children learn by doing, creating, pretending, talking, and working things out for themselves.

Group activities give children opportunities to listen, communicate, participate, cooperate, and learn alongside their classmates.

As children get ready for kindergarten, we encourage them to take on more responsibilities, follow classroom routines, make choices, and try things for themselves.
Getting Ready for What Comes Next
Pre-K is an important year, but we don’t believe preparing for kindergarten means rushing children through childhood.
Instead, we give children opportunities to become comfortable with the skills and routines they will encounter in their next school setting. They practice listening and following directions, working with others, communicating their ideas, solving problems, and taking greater responsibility for themselves.
Our teachers also recognize that children may arrive at different points in their development. Some may be ready to move quickly through a new skill, while others may need more time and practice. We meet children where they are and encourage them along the way.
The goal is for children to leave Pre-K feeling capable, confident, and excited about what comes next.

We maintain a low teacher-to-child ratio so teachers can provide children with individual attention while they participate in group and independent activities.
